Ex-KORN Guitarist BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH Settles Lawsuit With Former Business Partners
April 17, 2013Former KORN guitarist guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has settled his lawsuit against Greg Shanaberger and Mark Nawara, with whom he founded Driven Music Group in 2008. The label released Welch's debut solo album, "Save Me From Myself", as well as recordings by many other artists over the years.
According to Courthouse News Service, Welch filed the lawsuit in early 2011 claiming that Shanaberger misrepresented multiple terms of Driven Music Group, to persuade Welch to devote his "economically valuable name recognition and accumulated good will." The complaint, which was filed in Maricopa County Court, added that Shanaberger told the guitarist that Driven Music Group "would be a true, full service music label, with Welch as the featured artist," that it would be a joint, equal venture between Shanaberger, his friend Mark Nawara and Welch, and the "three owners would contribute equally to the initial funding/start-up of the company."
Welch had this to say about the settlement: "I am happy to say that me and my former label, manager, and partners, Driven Music Group, Greg Shanaberger and Mark Nawara have resolved all of our differences. I am happy to put the matter behind me and move on as friends. I have no room for negativity with all the great things going on in my life this year. Mark Nawara, Greg Shanaberger and I wish nothing but the best for each another."
Welch will reunite with KORN for a number of shows this spring and summer, including two dates in Germany, one concert in the United Kingdom and at the upcoming Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.
The guitarist joined KORN onstage for the song "Blind" last May at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Rockingham, North Carolina, marking the first time in eight years that KORN played with Welch.
Welch left KORN in 2005 to become a born-again Christian. The band never officially replaced him and stayed a four-piece, although they've used several touring guitarists for live work.
